ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed 13 militants during two separate infiltration attempts along the Pak-Afghan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The successful operations were conducted on April 28 and 29 as part of Pakistan’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy.
In an official statement, the military’s media wing said the militants belonged to “Fitna-al-Khwarij,” which it described as an Indian-sponsored terrorist network attempting to enter Pakistan through the Afghanistan border. The ISPR stated that security forces detected suspicious movement in Mohmand District, where a group of militants tried to infiltrate Pakistani territory.
Troops immediately launched an operation and engaged the militants with precision. During the intense exchange of fire, eight militants were killed. The military termed the operation a major success in preventing cross-border terrorism and ensuring border security in Pakistan.
In a separate incident in North Waziristan District, another infiltration attempt was foiled by Pakistan security forces. According to ISPR, five more militants were neutralised after heavy gunfire between troops and the infiltrators. The military added that sanitisation operations were continuing in the surrounding areas to eliminate any remaining threats.
The ISPR once again raised concerns over the Afghan Taliban government’s inability to stop militant groups from using Afghan soil to launch attacks inside Pakistan. The statement said Pakistan had repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to ensure effective border management and prevent terrorists from crossing into Pakistani territory.
Pakistan’s military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s borders and eliminating terrorism from the region. Officials said operations under the National Action Plan and Azm-e-Istehkam vision would continue at full pace to dismantle foreign-sponsored militant networks.
The latest counterterrorism operations come amid rising security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and North Waziristan, where Pakistan security forces have intensified military actions against militants involved in cross-border attacks and terrorism-related activities.
