ISLAMABAD: A total of 1,442,601 women entrepreneurs and business owners in Pakistan filed income tax returns for the tax year 2024, according to the latest data released by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

This marks an increase from 1,342,097 women filers listed on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) for the tax year 2023. The FBR released the updated data on “Active Women Taxpayers” as of July 1, 2025.

The majority of these women are individual taxpayers declaring income from business activities. Their number rose to 161,995 in 2024 from 154,195 in 2023—showing a growing trend in women’s participation in the formal economy.

The data also highlights increased female representation in business structures. The number of Active Taxpayers classified as Associations of Persons (AOPs) with 50 percent or more women members stood at 21,529.

Additionally, companies with 50 percent or more women on their boards of directors grew significantly—from 36,224 in 2023 to 40,019 in 2024.

The figures reflect a positive shift towards financial inclusion and tax compliance among women in Pakistan, particularly in the business sector. The FBR’s data underscores the increasing role of women in economic activities and their contribution to the national tax base.

This rise also aligns with broader efforts by government institutions and the private sector to empower women economically and ensure gender diversity in business leadership across the country.
