KARACHI: Mild earthquake tremors were felt in various areas of Karachi late Wednesday night, with a recorded magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale. The tremors were reported around 1:44 AM and were noticeable in neighborhoods such as Malir and Quaidabad.

According to the Seismological Center, the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located within a one-kilometer radius around Malir and nearby areas. The recent tremor is part of a pattern, as Karachi has experienced multiple low-intensity earthquakes in recent days.

Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider attributed the activity to the gradual release of seismic energy along the Landhi Fault Line. He stated that the frequency and intensity of these tremors are expected to decrease over time.

No damage has been reported as a result of these minor jolts. Officials clarified that the activity is part of natural seismic behavior in the region, particularly along two known fault lines: the Landhi Fault Line and another near Thana Bola Khan.

Historically, the Landhi Fault Line has not been associated with major earthquakes, though ongoing monitoring continues.
