BEIJING: China has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty following the recent 80-hour-long conflict between Pakistan and India, which left over 50 dead, including several security personnel.

During a meeting in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar of China’s unwavering backing. The meeting came days after a ceasefire was agreed upon on May 10, halting the worst hostilities between the nuclear-armed neighbors in nearly three decades.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Wang Yi praised Pakistan’s firm stance in protecting its sovereignty and reiterated China’s commitment to bolstering regional peace and development. He emphasized that China views Pakistan as an "iron brother" and all-weather strategic partner, expressing a desire to elevate their relationship to new levels of cooperation.

DPM Dar, making his first post-ceasefire visit to Beijing, thanked China for its consistent support and acknowledged the vital role of friendly nations in de-escalating tensions. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for China on its core interests and expressed a strong commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.

Both sides held comprehensive talks on regional dynamics, bilateral ties, and multilateral collaboration. They also emphasized the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions to ensure long-term peace in South Asia.

The two leaders reviewed the progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), particularly Phase-II, and welcomed the prospects of third-party participation. Cooperation in trade, investment, ICT, agriculture, and industrial development was also discussed.

Concluding the talks, both nations resolved to maintain close communication and coordination across all platforms to advance shared objectives of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
