KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani was released on Saturday from Ferozabad Police Station in a terrorism case linked to the alleged assault of a government official.
According to his lawyer, Ghani, along with two co-accused, was freed after the complainant, Hafiz Sohail, withdrew the case. He explained that once a complainant retracts a case, the accused do not need to be produced before the court. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which had earlier granted physical remand of the three men until August 30, has yet to be formally notified. The investigation officer is expected to submit a release report to the court.
The lawyer confirmed that the withdrawal resulted in the release of all three individuals. Earlier, Ghani — the younger brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani — had been arrested under terrorism and attempted murder charges. The case stemmed from allegations that he and his associates attacked a government employee overseeing fibre optic network work on Sharah-e-Faisal.
The FIR registered at Ferozabad Police Station had included serious charges such as attempted murder, criminal intimidation, rioting with weapons, and obstructing a public servant from performing official duties.
