HYDERABAD: The death toll from the firecracker factory explosion in Hyderabad climbed to seven on Sunday after rescue teams recovered another body from the rubble late Saturday night, while two injured victims died during treatment the following day, officials confirmed.

Rescue 1122 Sindh spokesperson Hassan Ul Haseeb told that teams found the additional body beneath a collapsed room and boundary wall. Two of the injured who had been shifted to Karachi for medical care also succumbed to their wounds.

The deadly blast occurred on Saturday in an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit operating inside a residential house in Laghari Goth, within the jurisdiction of Latifabad Police Station B Section. The explosion was powerful enough to be heard miles away, triggering a fire that rapidly engulfed the structure and caused severe damage.

According to officials, fireworks were being produced at the site without any licence or safety compliance. Rescue spokesperson Haseeb said the explosion “sparked a fire that quickly engulfed the facility, with initial reports indicating several people had sustained injuries.”

He added that Rescue 1122’s Central Command and Control immediately deployed firefighters, rescue teams, ambulances, and a fire brigade truck to the scene. The blaze was brought under control after hours of effort.

Firefighting and search operations continued late into Sunday as teams combed through debris to ensure no victims remained trapped. Authorities are expected to initiate action against those responsible for operating the illegal unit.
