KARACHI: Sindh government on Monday announced that double-decker buses will begin operations in Karachi starting next month, marking a new phase in the province’s public transport overhaul.
Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed the development in a statement, highlighting it as part of broader efforts to modernize urban transport in the province. “We’ve already launched several services for the public’s convenience, including the Peoples Bus Service and the Pink Bus for women. Now, we’re moving forward with double-decker buses to further ease urban commuting,” he said.
A committee including officials from Excise, Transport, Finance departments, and members of the media will supervise the balloting to ensure fairness and transparency.
The introduction of double-decker buses is being seen as a move to ease traffic congestion and promote tourism, offering commuters a higher-capacity and scenic transit option. Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, faces chronic transport issues that the provincial government aims to alleviate through sustained public transport investments.
