LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif have left their Jati Umra residence for a two-day visit to Dubai, after which they are expected to travel to London.
During the Dubai stay, Nawaz Sharif is set to extend invitations to guests for the upcoming wedding of his grandson, Junaid Safdar. The ceremonies are scheduled from January 16 to 18, 2026, and will see Junaid Safdar marry Shanzay Sheikh, granddaughter of senior PML-N leader Rohail Asghar. Mehndi and Valima functions are planned at the Sharif family residence in Jati Umra, with preparations already underway. Junaid, educated in the UK, currently resides in Lahore; his previous marriage in 2021 ended in October 2023.
Separately, Punjab authorities, under directives from the Chief Minister, are enforcing the “one-dish” rule at wedding events, including farmhouses, with strict monitoring of loudspeaker use. Deputy Commissioner Lahore has mobilized teams to ensure compliance, with assistant commissioners tasked to conduct field inspections and special squads deployed to enforce timing and catering regulations.
