GILGIT: Eight local volunteers tragically lost their lives in a massive landslide while working to repair the flood-damaged Danyor Nullah in Gilgit. The incident occurred as the volunteers were attempting to restore the vital water channel that had been severely affected by recent heavy rains and flooding.

Eyewitnesses reported that the landslide struck without warning, engulfing the workers under tonnes of earth and rocks. Rescue officials confirmed that several others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. Emergency services remain on high alert, and medical staff are providing critical care to the wounded.

So far, four individuals have been pulled out alive from the debris, though they remain in critical condition. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with teams assisted by local residents working tirelessly to locate any remaining trapped individuals.

In related developments, multiple road and infrastructure repair efforts are underway across the region. A team from the National Highway Authority (NHA) successfully cleared a blocked section at KM 161 in Jalkhad, restoring traffic flow. On the same day, the Looshi Bridge, which had been washed away by flash floods and landslides, was temporarily reconstructed and reopened to vehicles.
