KARACHI: The Senior Civil Judge West and Special Court for Cooperative Societies, Karachi, Naleemitho @ Muhammad Ishaq, on Tuesday maintained the stay on the announcement of election results in the case pertaining to Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Housing Society (Suit No. 2752/2026) and adjourned further proceedings until May 6, 2026.
During the hearing, the court was informed that although a clear restraining order had been issued on April 10, 2026, prohibiting any announcement of election results, the society management allegedly issued a resolution on April 15, 2026 in violation of the court’s directive. The petitioner’s counsel argued that such action amounts to a clear disregard of judicial orders.
Counsel for the petitioner, Naeela Kausar Sheikh, contended before the court that any document issued after a judicial restraint carries no legal standing. She further termed the resolution ineffective, stating that its value is merely that of an unfounded claim, likening it to “a mouse claiming to be an elephant or an elephant calling itself a lion.”
It was further highlighted that the term of the society’s elected committee expired on May 7, 2025, yet the administration continues to exercise authority. Serious concerns were also raised over ongoing construction and development activities within the society, despite clear directives from the relevant authorities that during the interim period only routine affairs are permitted and no major development or construction work should be undertaken.
The next hearing has been scheduled for May 6, 2026, with the case now entering a crucial stage that may have far-reaching implications for the society’s electoral process and administrative structure.
