ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a tax-free mobile registration facility for overseas Pakistanis during their visits to the country, valid for 120 days per visit. This initiative aims to facilitate seamless mobile connectivity for short-term visitors.
According to an official statement, overseas Pakistanis can avail of the tax-free registration under the Federal Board of Revenue policy. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) supports this initiative through its free, automated Temporary Mobile Registration System (TMRS).
Visitors can register their mobile devices tax-free via the DIRBS portal at https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs. This step ensures that overseas Pakistanis remain digitally connected without facing tax-related hurdles during their stays.
This initiative highlights PTA’s commitment to improving digital access for overseas Pakistanis and supporting their needs while in the country.
Separately, PTA, in collaboration with PTCL and private sector partners, recently launched free Wi-Fi hotspots for six months at selected HEC-recognized universities, including women’s universities, to empower students with enhanced digital resources.
In celebration of Pakistan surpassing 200 million telecom subscribers, mobile manufacturers have donated 2,000 locally assembled smartphones to be distributed among female SIM owners across Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) through computerized balloting.
“PTA remains committed to connecting Pakistan and digitally empowering the nation,” the statement added.
