ISLAMABAD: The first supermoon of 2026 is set to grace the skies tomorrow (Saturday), according to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
A SUPARCO spokesperson said the phenomenon, commonly referred to as the “Wolf Moon,” marks the first supermoon of the new year. The previous supermoon in this sequence was observed in October 2025. This celestial event will coincide with the peak of the Quadrantid meteor shower, adding to the spectacle.
In Pakistan, the Moon is expected to rise at 5:51pm, with illumination reaching nearly 99.8 percent. The supermoon will remain visible on January 3 and 4. During this time, the distance between the Earth and the Moon will be around 362,000 kilometres, making the Moon appear 6 to 7 percent larger and about 10 percent brighter than a typical full moon.
SUPARCO noted that the next supermoon will occur in November 2026.
