ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of intensified monsoon rains across the country starting today, July 28, accompanied by wind and thundershowers.

According to the PMD, weak monsoon currents are entering upper and central Pakistan and are expected to strengthen in the coming days. A westerly wave is also likely to enter the country on July 29, further enhancing the rainfall activity and extending its duration.

The Met Office has issued an impact-based advisory, warning of flash floods in local streams and nullahs due to heavy downpours. Urban flooding is also anticipated in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sialkot from July 28 to July 31.

In addition, landslides and mudslides are likely in hilly regions such as Murree, Galiyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, potentially disrupting road travel and isolating communities.

Authorities have urged the public, especially tourists and commuters, to avoid vulnerable areas and remain alert to weather updates. Precautionary measures are advised to reduce the risk of damage or loss.

The ongoing monsoon season has already claimed over 270 lives nationwide since June 26. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and PMD continue to monitor the evolving weather situation and are issuing regular alerts.
