KARACHI: A spokesperson for the Sindh government announced on Monday that floodwaters are expected to enter Sindh around midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Provincial spokesperson Saadia Javed clarified that no floodwater has entered Sindh yet. “The situation will become clearer once the flood stream reaches Trimmu and Panjnad,” she said. Javed added that the flow would be classified as a “super flood” if it exceeds 900,000 cusecs, but assured that the government has made comprehensive preparations to manage such an emergency.
Authorities anticipate evacuating people from nearly 600 locations between Guddu and Kotri Barrage if conditions worsen. The katcha belt of Sindh, home to about 1.5 million people, is most at risk, and residents may be relocated to safer areas in case of escalation.
Meanwhile, water levels in the Indus River are already rising. Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi reported that 34 people stranded in Imam Bux Jatoi Goth were successfully rescued and shifted to safety with the help of rescue teams. He further noted that many families from katcha settlements have already begun moving to higher ground as a precaution.
