RAWALPINDI: Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general Faiz Hameed has been handed a 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence following a Field General Court Martial, according to an official statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday. The senior military official, formerly a lieutenant general, was convicted on multiple charges including engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority, and causing wrongful loss through the misuse of government resources.
The ISPR confirmed that the court martial proceedings began on August 12, 2024, and spanned over 15 months, during which a series of detailed legal hearings were conducted. The military’s public relations wing stated that the accused faced four serious charges, all linked to actions deemed against the safety and interests of the state. After what it described as comprehensive and transparent hearings, the court found him guilty on all counts. The verdict was formally issued on December 11, 2025.
According to the statement, all legal provisions were strictly followed throughout the court martial process. The former ISI chief was provided every legal right, including the right to be represented by a defence team of his choice. ISPR emphasized that the proceedings were conducted in full accordance with the Pakistan Army Act and ensured due process at every stage.
The military further noted that while the court has delivered its sentence, Faiz Hameed is legally entitled to appeal the decision at the appropriate forum. Additionally, the ISPR revealed that separate investigations are underway concerning his alleged involvement in political agitation and efforts to destabilize the country through collaboration with political actors.
Last year, the former intelligence chief was formally indicted on charges tied to political interference and violations of the Official Secrets Act. The ongoing investigations also focus on his purported role in creating unrest that escalated into multiple incidents, including those linked to the events of May 9, 2023. Authorities allege that these actions were carried out in coordination with vested political interests aiming to foment instability.
This high-profile conviction marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of political interference within state institutions. As the nation watches closely, the case continues to evolve with further inquiries still in progress, potentially leading to additional legal consequences for the former military officer.
