KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Tuesday set aside the punishment earlier awarded to K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi in a workplace harassment case, granting significant relief to the power utility’s top executive.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, K-Electric confirmed that the governor had overturned the order issued by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh against Moonis Alvi. The company stated that the decision was taken under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, after hearing arguments from all concerned parties and reviewing the available record.

“The Governor of Sindh has set aside the impugned order passed by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh,” the company said in its statement.

Reacting to the decision, Moonis Alvi expressed relief in a post on X, saying he was thankful that the matter had reached a just conclusion and expressed gratitude to his family and friends for their support during the ordeal.

Earlier, on July 31, 2025, the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Justice (retd) Shah Nawaz Tariq, had ordered Alvi’s removal from his position as CEO of K-Electric and imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million after concluding that harassment allegations against him had been proven.

Following that ruling, the Sindh High Court had suspended the implementation of the Ombudsman’s order while hearing a constitutional petition filed by Alvi. He had also submitted a formal appeal before the Sindh governor, the competent authority for reviewing decisions of the Provincial Ombudsman.

The complaint was lodged by Mehreen Zehra, a former chief marketing officer at K-Electric, who accused Moonis Alvi of harassment and causing mental distress. She had been engaged by the company in 2019 to provide consultancy services.

After completing its inquiry, the Ombudsman had ruled in favour of the complainant, directing Alvi’s removal from office and ordering him to pay the fine within one month. The order had also warned of asset seizure and possible blocking of Alvi’s national identity card and passport in case of non-compliance.
