ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said the government fully implemented the Supreme Court’s directions regarding the medical examination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
Addressing a press conference, Tarar rejected allegations that the government violated the court’s order by taking Imran Khan to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of Shifa International Hospital.
He said the former prime minister was examined at PIMS in the presence of doctors from Shifa International Hospital. Imran Khan’s sister was also present during the medical examination, which Tarar described as transparent and compliant with the Supreme Court’s directions.
According to the minister, the government initially planned to take Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital. However, he claimed that the gathering of PTI supporters outside the facility created security and law-and-order concerns, prompting authorities to shift the examination to PIMS.
Tarar said doctors examined Imran Khan and found his vital health parameters normal. He maintained that the government had continued providing medical care to the PTI founder and would ensure treatment whenever required.
The minister also criticised PTI for politicising Imran Khan’s health, saying medical matters should be handled by doctors rather than political actors. He alleged that the party’s statements and actions amounted to contempt of court.
His remarks came after PTI filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court, alleging that the government had failed to comply with the court’s order concerning Imran Khan’s hospital transfer.
Tarar said the government had already challenged aspects of the Supreme Court order through a review petition, particularly questions concerning equal facilities for prisoners and the legal framework for treatment at a private hospital.
He urged PTI to avoid politicising the issue and allow medical and legal matters to remain within their respective frameworks.
