KARACHI: Karimabad Society is facing an increasing dispute over an illegal committee and ongoing construction work. Meanwhile, concerns have already been raised regarding the actions of Abdul Waheed Sheikh, Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh.
An illegal committee had already taken charge before the announcement of elections. The committee includes former Director Shamsheer Khan Qureshi, former Secretary Imran Awan, and former Vice Chairman Gulshan Aziz. It is also reported that due to a lack of full implementation of orders issued by the Registrar, he appears unable to ensure compliance with his own directives, according to sources.
It is important to note that the current administrative situation was created by Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh, Naveed Abbasi, and under the supervision of Election Officer Jahanzeb Baloch, Imran Awan was declared successful. Sources also say that he did not meet the required conditions for membership, and this entire situation is linked to May 7, 2023.
During the same administrative situation, the financial and construction matters of the society are also under discussion. The Deputy Registrar-II Cooperative Societies Sindh had clearly stated that houses should only be given to genuine members, but later they were reportedly sold for large amounts of money. It is also said that former Secretary Imran Awan and Mrs. Gulzar Ullah Wala received a four-room house in K-4 Extension in exchange for a one-room unit in J-224-A, while house files are reportedly being sold on “own” basis and heavy amounts are being collected as monthly installments, and despite all this, the construction schedule of the K-4 Extension project has still not been made clear.
It should be noted that Case No. 2752/2026 related to the society is currently being heard in the court of Senior Civil Judge West and Special Court for Cooperative Societies, Karachi, presided over by Nala Meethu @ Muhammad Ishaq. In this case, the Registrar Cooperative Societies had imposed a ban on the election process. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 13, 2026.
On the other hand, residents say that even after two years, the Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh has still not formed the Extension Committee or shown any clear progress in this regard. As a result, administrative confusion and uncertainty in the society have further increased.
Residents of the society have urged the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Minister for Anti-Corruption (E&ACE Sindh) to conduct a detailed review and transparent investigation of all administrative actions taken after Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh, Abdul Waheed Sheikh, assumed charge. They also called for checking compliance with the Cooperative Act, rules, and the society’s by-laws. The aim is to clarify the truth behind ongoing irregularities and complaints related to the society’s management.
