ISLAMABAD :Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday sharply criticized the sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan for giving interviews to Indian media, calling their statements “shameful” and accusing them of defaming Pakistan at a sensitive time. The remarks came after Imran’s sisters — Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan — staged a sit-in outside Adiala Jail, claiming they were denied a meeting with their brother and were later “manhandled” and detained by police.
Speaking at a press conference, Tarar alleged that all three sisters were present at the May 9 attacks, including at the Corps Commander’s House. He stated that video evidence showed their presence and involvement. “Their presence is proof. They were there on May 9 and brought groups with them. It is visible on the cameras,” he claimed.
Tarar accused PTI of creating a “drama” to divert attention from recent government achievements. He said the party could not “digest” Pakistan’s improving economy and foreign policy progress after the Marka-i-Haq operation.
The minister strongly condemned Noreen Khan’s interview with an Indian channel, questioning why she did not speak against Narendra Modi, the Hindutva ideology, or the human rights abuses against Muslims in India. He also questioned why she did not mention the Pakistani civilians, soldiers, and officers who were martyred in recent attacks. “Those who go on Indian channels and defame Pakistan should die of shame,” Tarar said.
He accused India’s media outlets of promoting such interviews because “they know this family and this party’s mindset is against Pakistan.” Tarar further criticized Noreen for avoiding mention of **India-occupied Kashmir** and other national issues while instead “crying victimisation for a corruption accused”.
Referring to claims about Imran Khan’s health, Tarar rejected them as exaggerated. He said Imran was “hale and hearty” and exercised daily. “This kind of VVIP prisoner, with five-star facilities, you won’t find anywhere in the world,” he added.
Tarar concluded by saying the sisters were using foreign platforms to mislead people. “If only they had spoken about our martyrs, about Irtiza Abbas, about Kashmir, about Modi’s atrocities. But for them, politics and defaming Pakistan come first.”
