RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has urged his party to prepare for a “major nationwide movement” aimed at ousting the current coalition government, his sister Aleema Khan revealed on Monday.
Speaking outside Central Jail Adiala, Aleema quoted Khan saying the movement will be launched across Pakistan and not just centered in Islamabad. She did not specify a date for the movement but stressed Khan’s firm stance against party members who "play on both sides of the wicket."
Aleema highlighted the harsh conditions faced by Khan in jail since August 2023, including restrictions on meeting his family. He has been allowed to speak to his children only once in eight months, and the jail administration reportedly blocks attempts to send him books. Khan’s personal physician has also been denied access for health checkups.
Despite these challenges, Khan remains resolute. “Even if I am kept in jail for life, I will not bow down,” Aleema quoted him.
Meanwhile, PTI is reportedly exploring renewed talks with the government. Sources said party leaders Barrister Gohar and Barrister Saif are actively engaging in dialogue, which had previously stalled due to tensions between Pakistan and India.
However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif told Geo News that no formal negotiations are currently underway, though efforts for Khan’s release continue. Saif recently met Khan in jail, receiving key instructions on advancing talks quietly, away from media attention, to ensure progress.
This move follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent invitation to PTI for national dialogue during a National Assembly speech.
As the political standoff intensifies, Imran Khan’s call for a nationwide movement signals a new phase in Pakistan’s turbulent political landscape.
