Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Monday delivered a sharp warning to Pakistan, describing the brief May conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours as “only a trailer” rather than the full picture. His remarks came days after a rare explosion near New Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, which left 12 people dead — the first such attack in the capital since 2011.

Speaking at a defence conference in New Delhi, Gen Dwivedi said the 88-hour May confrontation was only a glimpse of India’s capabilities. “The movie hasn’t even started — only a trailer was shown,” he declared. “We’re fully prepared for the future, and if Pakistan gives us such an opportunity, we’d like to provide them with a thorough education on how a responsible nation should behave with its neighbours.”

The May escalation erupted after an attack on tourists in India-occupied Kashmir, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan without presenting evidence. Islamabad firmly rejected the claim and called for a neutral inquiry. India launched air strikes in Punjab and Azad Kashmir on May 7, triggering retaliatory strikes. The four-day crisis ended only after US intervention secured a ceasefire on May 10.

Meanwhile, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) presented a suspect in court in connection with last week’s deadly explosion. The accused, Amir Rashid Ali, is one of two men alleged to be linked to the suicide bombing. Officials say both suspects are from India-occupied Kashmir but have not disclosed any motive or organisational ties.

According to the NIA, Ali assisted alleged suicide bomber Umarun Nabi, a medical professor, by helping procure the car used as a vehicle-borne explosive. A New Delhi court has remanded Ali into NIA custody for 10 days as investigations continue.
