ISLAMABAD – Iran’s top military commander General Mohammad Hossein Mousavi held a telephone conversation on Sunday with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal General Asim Munir, to express gratitude for Islamabad’s support during the recent military escalation involving Israel and the United States.

According to Iranian media reports, General Mousavi, Chairman of the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, acknowledged Pakistan’s solidarity during the conflict and discussed the continuation of bilateral defense cooperation following a ceasefire declared on June 24.

Calling the confrontation “unprovoked aggression,” General Mousavi accused the United States of playing a central role in the hostilities, not only by backing Israel politically but also by directly participating in military operations. He alleged that coordinated strikes were carried out on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz on June 22.

He further claimed that multiple Western nations provided varying degrees of support to Israel during the offensive.

Despite initial setbacks, including the loss of several senior Iranian commanders, General Mousavi said Tehran’s military response disrupted adversarial strategies and ultimately led to a ceasefire agreement.

Conflict and Diplomatic Response

The conflict erupted on June 13, just days before scheduled nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States. The fighting rapidly escalated into a broader regional confrontation, drawing international concern.

On June 26, during a federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the ceasefire and called it a “crucial step” toward avoiding further regional instability and human loss. He credited diplomatic efforts by several countries, including Saudi Arabia, in helping secure the truce.

“Pakistan is committed to regional peace and stability,” the prime minister said, reiterating Islamabad’s call for restraint and dialogue in resolving disputes.
