ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced that a special protection unit is being established in Islamabad to ensure the security of Chinese nationals residing and working in Pakistan.
According to a statement issued by the interior ministry, Naqvi made the announcement during his meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, in Beijing. The meeting took place at the headquarters of China’s Ministry of Public Security, where Naqvi was warmly received.
During the discussions, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation against terrorism through a joint and rapid response mechanism. They also decided to expand training programmes to enhance the professional capacity of police and security personnel.
Wang Xiaohong praised Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements for Chinese citizens. Naqvi reaffirmed that the protection of Chinese nationals and projects of shared interest remains a top priority for Pakistan, adding that effective measures are already in place.
The two ministers also agreed to enhance intelligence and information sharing between relevant institutions and discussed collaboration in preventing cybercrime. Naqvi said Pakistan aims to benefit from Chinese support, including AI-based technologies, to strengthen the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency.
It was further decided that a joint working group would meet quarterly, while ministerial-level meetings would be held annually.
