KARACHI: Heavy rain in Karachi has claimed at least six lives and left three others injured in multiple rain-related incidents, prompting city authorities to declare an emergency. The fatalities were reported from different areas of the metropolis, highlighting serious safety concerns during the rainy season.

According to police and rescue officials, four people died due to electrocution while others lost their lives in wall collapse incidents caused by continuous rainfall. In Golimar, a rickshaw driver identified as Irshad was killed when a house wall collapsed on him during the heavy downpour.

In Surjani Town, a young man died after suffering an electric shock while working. Another tragic incident occurred in PIB Colony, where a man named Abdul Wali was electrocuted near a hotel. In the same area of Surjani Town Sector 7-A, a 12-year-old girl, Dua, lost her life after being electrocuted inside her home.

Reports also confirmed that an unidentified man died of electrocution on MA Jinnah Road, while a laborer lost his life in the Ahsanabad area near the Super Highway due to exposed electrical wiring during the rain.

In a separate incident in Orangi Town, three children were injured when a wall collapsed due to the intensity of the rain. These incidents underline the dangers posed by weak infrastructure and unsafe electrical systems across Karachi during heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, K-Electric issued a safety advisory, urging citizens to avoid using electrical appliances in wet conditions and to stay away from exposed wires installations. The utility also warned against illegal connections, commonly known as kundas, which significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents.

Authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant as more rain is expected. Emergency teams have been placed on high alert to respond to any further incidents across the city.
