KARACHI: A Karachi resident has been issued an e-challan for a motorcycle theft that occurred nearly two years ago, raising fresh concerns over Karachi traffic enforcement and digital monitoring systems. According to reports, the motorcycle was stolen from Liaquatabad Karachi in December 2023 and was never recovered despite an FIR registration with local police.
The affected citizen said he was stunned to receive an e-challan in December 2025 for an alleged helmet violation near the National Stadium flyover, even though the stolen motorcycle has not been in his possession since the theft. He said the incident highlights poor coordination between traffic police and law enforcement databases.
In a separate incident, another Karachi vehicle owner received two seat belt e-challans despite his car being parked at home. The fines were issued to a 1987-model car after criminals allegedly used a duplicate number plate on a different vehicle traveling across provinces.
Both cases have intensified public concern over flaws in Karachi’s e-challan system, vehicle theft records, and inter-agency data integration.
