ISLAMABAD: Most parts of Pakistan continue to reel under hot and dry weather conditions, with temperatures steadily rising and expected to intensify in the coming days. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued an advisory highlighting the persistent dry spell, particularly affecting the southern districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), where the heat is projected to be more severe than in other regions.

According to the Met Office, while much of the province will remain under the grip of dry weather, certain northern areas could experience some respite. There is a forecast for rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Swat. These regions also experienced scattered showers the previous day, offering a brief break from the rising temperatures.

Rainfall recorded over the past 24 hours included 14mm in Dir, 9mm in Kalam, 4mm in Drosh, and 3mm each in Patan and Balakot. Weather experts noted that the precipitation was localized but brought some relief in the upper parts of the province.

Temperature readings showed scorching conditions in the plains, with Peshawar recording 35°C, Dera Ismail Khan 39°C, and Bannu 35°C. In contrast, the hilly regions offered cooler conditions—Kalam registered a low of 16°C, Malam Jabba 18°C, Chitral 22°C, and Dir 26°C.

Authorities have urged residents, particularly in southern K-P, to take necessary precautions against the extreme heat. People are advised to stay indoors during peak hours, remain hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

The Met Department has predicted similar weather patterns to continue for at least the next 48 hours. Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and plan accordingly.

The current weather trend aligns with broader regional patterns of increasing temperatures as summer approaches, with possible localized weather events bringing temporary relief to select areas.
