QUETTA: The mother of Bano, the woman killed in a recent ‘honour’ incident in Balochistan, has publicly defended the act, urging the release of tribal leader Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai.
In a circulating video statement, Bano’s mother said her daughter’s killing was in line with Balochi tribal traditions. She emphasized that Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai, a prominent figure in the region, had no direct role in the murders and should not be held accountable. “I request the authorities to release Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai and others who have been detained,” she stated, expressing support for the traditional justice system that led to her daughter’s death.
The controversial case came to light after a disturbing video, reportedly filmed during Eid al-Adha, showed armed men executing a man and woman in a remote desert location. The footage sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompting swift action by the authorities.
So far, at least 11 individuals have been arrested in connection with the killings, including Sardar Satakzai. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the arrests on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the government stands firmly with the victims and that operations will continue.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the incident and directed a comprehensive investigation. According to the PM Office, Sharif personally contacted CM Bugti and instructed him to ensure a transparent and timely probe into the killings.
