Mubasher Mir demands strong action to protect Ma’sooma-e-Sindh shrine from land mafia

KARACHI: Despite a court ruling on the official construction of the shrine of Ma'sooma-e-Sindh Khadija Bibi Maham (SA) Daughter of Imam Musa Kazim (AS)in Agham Kot, malicious tactics are still being used. The real motive behind the actions of petitioner Ghulam Rasool Qureshi, who has brought extremist groups from various cities to instigate provocative activities, is not merely the disrespect of graves. The true facts are that the Government of Sindh handed over 74.5 acres to the Sindh Auqaf Department, but in reality, only 8 to 10 acres of land still visibly contains signs of the graveyard and archaeological remains. The rest of the land is still under illegal occupation by Ghulam Rasool Qureshi and other members of the land mafia.

It is also a confirmed fact that before the Sindh Auqaf Department took control of the graveyard, the area was a major hub for drug trafficking. Due to the department assuming control and the daily arrival of thousands of pilgrims from across the country, the drug trade in the area has now completely ended. Seeing their control over the land slipping, the land mafia is now resorting to disrespecting sacred items placed in areas designated for pilgrims’ prayers and worship, and blatantly violating court orders. All of this is the result of a nexus between land grabbers, drug dealers, and extremist groups, who are now even trying to blackmail officials of the Auqaf Department to maintain their grip over the graveyard land.

These views were expressed by senior journalist and President of the Karachi Editors Club, Mubashir Mir, while addressing a meeting of the Agham Kot Zaireen Khidmat Committee chaired by Syed Manzar Naqvi in Karachi on Friday.

He emphasized that the Government of Sindh and all relevant authorities should immediately act against such peace-disrupting elements — the land mafia, drug dealers, and extremist groups — and eliminate all conspiracies aimed at inciting unrest. Effective measures must be taken to restore peace and order.

The meeting also included detailed discussions and key decisions regarding preparations for the upcoming “International Ma'sooma-e-Sindh Conference 2025.”
