ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired a high-level security meeting on Thursday to review nationwide preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram, during which it was decided that any potential suspension of mobile or internet services would be considered in consultation with provincial authorities. The meeting included representatives from all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and the Islamabad Capital Territory.

Participants emphasized strict action against those spreading sectarian hate through social media. Naqvi assured full federal support to maintain peace during Muharram and stressed that no individual or group would be allowed to incite unrest or disrupt public order. He highlighted the use of modern technology to monitor processions and gatherings and reaffirmed enforcement of the established code of conduct.

Briefings were provided by provincial inspectors general of police, interior secretaries, and senior security officials. Key attendees included Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, CDA Acting Chairman, Commandant of the Frontier Constabulary, and senior Islamabad police officials. DG Rangers Sindh and security officials from other provinces, AJK, and GB joined via video link.

In a related development, the Ulema-Mashaykh Peace Conference was held in Islamabad under the Council of Islamic Ideology, led by Dr. Raghib Naeemi. Scholars from various sects called for unity and denounced extremism and sectarianism. The joint declaration urged loyalty to the Constitution and affirmed citizens’ rights to religious expression and peaceful assembly. It condemned violence and armed rebellion against the state and warned against using coercion to impose religious views.

The declaration supported strict measures against hate speech and illegal military training in educational institutions. It also stressed respect for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his companions, and the Ahl al-Bayt, while prohibiting acts of takfir (declaring others disbelievers).
