ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers in the National Assembly on Tuesday voiced unanimous support for a firm and resolute response to Indian provocations, particularly in the wake of recent inflammatory rhetoric following the Pahalgam incident.

The session, chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, focused on India's escalating hostility and its unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty — a move strongly condemned across party lines.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence between neighboring nations, but warned that any misadventure by India would be met with the “harshest” retaliation. He pointed out that the unprovoked termination of the Indus Waters Treaty by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unprecedented, and called for the matter to be taken to the International Court of Justice.

Gohar stressed that this situation would not mirror Gaza and warned that a conflict with Pakistan would escalate beyond India’s expectations. He highlighted that India failed to condemn the recent Jafar Express bombing, whereas Pakistan has always condemned terrorism, including incidents in Pulwama and Pahalgam.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called India’s actions “irresponsible” and described the treaty suspension as a “crime against humanity.” He reiterated that Pakistan is a victim — not an exporter — of terrorism and said India was trying to scapegoat Pakistan for its internal failures.

PPP’s Sehar Kamran paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for Pakistan’s nuclear program and emphasized that the country’s defense capabilities serve as a strong deterrent.

MQM leader Farooq Sattar criticized Modi's anti-Pakistan stance, describing it as “Pakistan-phobia.” He cited India’s diplomatic setbacks and said that India is facing global isolation due to its actions. He reminded the house of Pakistan’s past military victories and declared the nation ready for any challenge.

Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan criticized the absence of key government ministers, including the prime minister, calling it a sign of indifference. Ejaz-ul-Haq echoed this sentiment, stressing national unity in times of crisis and asserting that Pakistan will respond forcefully to any aggression.
