ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau has reported massive recoveries worth Rs2.962 trillion during the first quarter of 2026, marking one of the biggest anti-corruption recoveries in Pakistan’s history. According to official figures, the recovery amount is 33 times higher than the Rs91.01 billion recovered during the same period in 2025.
The accountability watchdog said the increase reflects improved institutional performance, stronger enforcement measures, and enhanced coordination with provincial authorities. NAB officials stated that the bureau has intensified operations against illegal occupation of state land, financial corruption, and public fraud cases across the country.
In Punjab, NAB Lahore and Multan recovered 4,034 acres of government land valued at Rs23.33 billion. Meanwhile, NAB Karachi and Sukkur recovered 54,387 acres of state land worth approximately Rs2.89 trillion, making it the largest regional recovery during the first quarter of the year.
In Balochistan, NAB recovered 51,577 acres of government land estimated at Rs36.54 billion. The bureau also recovered Rs11.085 billion through plea bargains, court fines, auctions, and settlements in corruption-related cases.
According to the bureau, around 6,475 victims of cheating public at large cases received settlements totaling Rs1.78 billion. Officials said these efforts are aimed at improving transparency, protecting public assets, and restoring trust in accountability institutions.
NAB further revealed that, in collaboration with provincial governments, it has identified nearly 900,000 acres of allegedly misappropriated state land in Punjab with an estimated value of Rs4.37 trillion. In Sindh, authorities are tracing 452,968 acres of land worth around Rs10.96 trillion.
The governments of Punjab and Sindh have established special task forces under senior revenue officials to accelerate the recovery and regularization process of public land. NAB stated that these coordinated efforts will help strengthen governance and improve land management systems.
The bureau reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing accountability in a transparent and merit-based manner while continuing operations against corruption and illegal occupation of public property throughout Pakistan.
