ISLAMABAD,: Pakistan’s civil-military leadership will conduct a national security briefing on Sunday for representatives of major political parties amid escalating tensions with India following a deadly attack in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the high-level briefing will be led by Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. The focus will be on the current national security landscape, with particular emphasis on rising hostilities with India.

Tensions flared following an April 22 attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK, that left 26 Indian tourists dead. India swiftly blamed Pakistan for the incident—an accusation Islamabad has vehemently denied. In response to Indian threats of retaliation, Pakistani authorities have warned of a resolute and proportionate response to any potential aggression.

“Pakistan has nothing to do with the Pahalgam attack, period,” Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated during a recent press conference. He called for a joint investigation with India under mutually agreed Terms of Reference (TORs), while also casting doubt on the timing of the allegations. “This situation is being created by India amid Pakistan’s economic stability,” Dar added.

As the diplomatic row intensifies, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned an emergency session of the National Assembly on Monday evening. Lawmakers are expected to issue a formal condemnation of India’s threats, particularly concerning the possible suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty—a longstanding water-sharing pact between the two countries since 1960.

Political analysts suggest the civil-military briefing is aimed at fostering national unity and ensuring that political leaders are informed about the evolving regional security dynamics. With cross-border rhetoric growing sharper, Pakistan’s leadership appears focused on presenting a united domestic front in the face of potential external threats.

The outcome of Sunday’s briefing may also shape Pakistan’s next diplomatic and military steps as tensions with India remain high.
