ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday approved a 35 paisa per unit increase in electricity tariffs under a quarterly adjustment mechanism.

The hike relates to the October–December 2025 quarter and will remain in effect for three months, from March through May 2026.

According to NEPRA’s decision, the revised tariff will impose an additional financial burden of more than Rs 8.67 billion on electricity consumers nationwide. The regulatory authority has forwarded its determination to the federal government for formal notification before implementation.

This adjustment follows a similar increase earlier in the current fiscal year, when power tariffs were raised by 33 paisa per unit for the July–September 2025 quarter. That increase was applied from December 2025 to February 2026.

Previously, NEPRA had also approved a 33 paisa per unit rise under the December fuel price adjustment. A notification issued at the time confirmed the increase as part of the quarterly review process.

The latest revised rates will be reflected in upcoming electricity bills across the country, covering all major power distribution companies.

The increase will apply to general consumers nationwide. However, lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations have been exempted from the latest adjustment.

NEPRA stated that the revision is part of the routine fuel cost pass-through mechanism, which accounts for fluctuations in fuel prices used in power generation. As a result, electricity bills for household and commercial users are expected to rise slightly.

The authority noted that such adjustments are periodically reviewed and announced in advance to ensure transparency and allow consumers to anticipate changes in their utility expenses.
