ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday asserted that Pakistan would firmly counter any hostile action, emphasizing that the country’s peace, stability, and territorial integrity are non-negotiable.
In separate messages, both leaders reaffirmed that the state would not bow to intimidation or external pressure. President Zardari said the nation and its armed forces stand united in defending the country’s borders, warning that any attempt to exploit Pakistan’s commitment to peace would receive a decisive reply. He maintained that while Pakistan prefers dialogue over confrontation, it possesses the full capability to thwart hostile intentions.
The president alleged that for several years, elements linked to the Afghan Taliban regime have supported terrorist activities against Pakistan through Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Despite diplomatic outreach and engagement facilitated by friendly nations, he said no constructive outcome had emerged. He added that recent cross-border actions had directly challenged Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed similar sentiments, stating that both the public and the armed forces remain prepared to safeguard national security. He highlighted the military’s professionalism, advanced training, and strategic preparedness to address any internal or external threat.
The premier noted that under the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, the armed forces are carrying out their duties with determination and unity.
Their remarks come amid the ongoing “Operation Ghazab Lil Haq,” launched following what officials described as unprovoked cross-border aggression. Pakistani security forces have conducted coordinated air and ground strikes targeting positions in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, and Nangarhar.
According to the military spokesperson, clashes occurred at 53 locations along the frontier. Officials reported that 274 Taliban fighters were killed and over 400 injured during the engagements. Additionally, 73 border posts were destroyed, 18 were taken into control, and 115 tanks used by insurgents were eliminated.
The country’s leadership reiterated that while Pakistan remains committed to regional peace, it will take resolute action against any threat to its sovereignty.
