KARACHI: A multi-vehicle collision on Shahrah-e-Faisal near Drigh Road on Friday claimed one life and injured two others, including a traffic police officer, according to police officials.

The crash involved a tanker, a car, a Suzuki van, and several motorcycles, causing significant disruption on one of Karachi’s busiest roads. Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital, where one victim, critically wounded, was declared dead on arrival.

Police said the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, though initial findings point to sudden braking amid dense traffic. Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the sequence of events.

The crash triggered a massive traffic jam in the area, with commuters facing delays during peak hours. Eyewitnesses reported a loud screech followed by multiple impacts as vehicles collided in quick succession.

In separate incidents across Karachi on Thursday night, three individuals — including two women — lost their lives in unrelated tragedies.

In Sher Shah, a robbery turned deadly when two motorcycle-riding suspects opened fire during an attempted mobile snatching. Twenty-two-year-old Khail Nawaz was killed on the spot, while 20-year-old Gul Zaib sustained bullet wounds. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting raids to apprehend the assailants.

Meanwhile, a woman identified as Tasmeena, 45, died after falling from the seventh floor of a building in the Ramswami area. Police say the circumstances surrounding her fall are suspicious. Family members are being questioned to determine if foul play was involved.

Another tragic incident occurred in Korangi’s Chamra Chowrangi, where 45-year-old Shazia was fatally hit by a speeding truck while crossing the road. The truck driver was apprehended on the spot, and an inquiry is ongoing.

The spate of fatal accidents and violent crimes has raised renewed concerns about public safety, road discipline, and crime control in Karachi — a city grappling with dense traffic, rising street crime, and frequent pedestrian fatalities.
