Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Friday strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon, calling the attacks a blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and the ceasefire agreement signed in November 2024. The FO urged the international community to take immediate steps to hold Tel Aviv accountable and prevent further escalation.
“These airstrikes are a flagrant violation of international law and the sovereignty of Lebanon,” the FO stated, expressing “unequivocal” condemnation of the aggression. It extended full solidarity to the Lebanese people during what it called a “difficult time.”
According to Al Jazeera, Thursday’s strikes marked the fourth Israeli bombing of Beirut since the ceasefire. The attack, which occurred on the eve of Eidul Azha, targeted Hezbollah positions. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun denounced the strikes as “Israeli aggression” and a “serious breach” of the international accord.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah reignited on October 8, a day after Hamas launched attacks on southern Israel, triggering the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Hezbollah, allied with Hamas, claims its actions are aimed at supporting Palestinians under Israeli bombardment.
The FO warned that Israel’s “reckless use of force” endangers civilian lives and threatens peace and stability across the region. “The international community, particularly the United Nations and ceasefire mediators, must act decisively to stop these violations,” it said.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and international law, urging accountability for what it described as repeated Israeli provocations.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that the country’s army had dismantled over 500 Hezbollah positions and weapons depots in the south. He reiterated Lebanon’s demand for the end of Israeli violations and the release of Lebanese prisoners.
“There can be no lasting security while our land remains occupied and Israel continues its daily violations,” Salam stated
