ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday strongly condemned the United States’ recent airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, warning that the attack could further destabilize an already volatile Middle East.
In an official statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan expressed deep concern over the military escalation, particularly in light of the series of Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in recent weeks. The statement underscored Islamabad’s longstanding position in favor of diplomacy and peaceful resolution of disputes.
"Pakistan condemns the United States’ airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which follow a series of attacks by Israel. We are gravely concerned at the possible further escalation of tensions in the region," the statement read.
The Foreign Office reiterated that such unilateral use of force undermines international law and could provoke broader conflict across the region. It called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that may lead to irreversible consequences.
“These developments are deeply alarming. Any further escalation would not only endanger regional stability but also have serious implications for global peace and security,” the statement continued.
Pakistan urged the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to intervene and play a proactive role in de-escalating the situation through dialogue and diplomacy. The statement also emphasized that continued hostilities risk drawing neighboring countries into a wider conflict, which could have catastrophic humanitarian and economic consequences.
The airstrikes, launched late Saturday night by the United States, targeted key Iranian nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Arak. The Pentagon claimed the attacks were aimed at preventing Iran from advancing its nuclear weapons program, citing recent intelligence suggesting accelerated uranium enrichment activity by Tehran.
Iran has strongly condemned the strikes, calling them an "act of war" and vowing swift retaliation. In response, regional powers including Russia, China, and Turkey have also condemned the U.S. action, while Israel has declared full support.
Pakistan’s statement reflects growing concern among non-aligned and regional nations that the unfolding conflict could spiral into a broader war, especially as tensions between the U.S., Iran, and Israel continue to rise.
In recent months, Pakistan has consistently advocated for restraint and warned against militarization of the nuclear issue. Officials in Islamabad have repeatedly emphasized the need to revive diplomatic initiatives like the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and to avoid actions that jeopardize regional peace.
As developments continue to unfold, Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting international efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East, calling for dialogue over confrontation
