Islamabad: In a significant milestone for Pakistan’s digital and technological transformation, the government has issued its first blockchain-based High Performance Computing (HPC) license to Higgs Computing, a leading emerging firm in AI and cloud infrastructure.
The license was granted under the newly introduced Digital Pakistan Framework, which aims to position the country as a regional hub for blockchain innovation, advanced computing, and artificial intelligence. This marks the first time such a license has been issued using blockchain technology, ensuring a transparent, secure, and tamper-proof process.
Announcing the development, Bilal Bin Saqib, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Crypto and Blockchain, said the licensing of HPC operations through blockchain is a critical step toward decentralizing and modernizing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
“Higgs Computing represents the future of high-performance data capabilities in Pakistan,” Saqib stated. “By issuing this license via blockchain, we are not only promoting trust and transparency but also aligning our processes with international best practices.”
Higgs Computing plans to deploy its infrastructure in regions with surplus renewable energy capacity, particularly in Balochistan and northern Punjab. The company’s facilities will power compute-intensive applications such as AI model training, cloud computing, scientific research, and secure government services.
The blockchain-based license is part of a broader government strategy to digitize key regulatory processes, reduce bureaucracy, and attract foreign investment in technology. It also aligns with Pakistan’s recent decision to establish a government-backed Bitcoin reserve and allocate 2,000 MW of energy for crypto mining and AI data centers.
Industry experts have praised the move, seeing it as a signal that Pakistan is serious about integrating cutting-edge technologies into its economy.
“This is a game-changer for Pakistan’s tech ecosystem,” said Zara Malik, a Lahore-based blockchain consultant. “HPC powered by clean energy, governed by transparent digital protocols, is exactly the kind of innovation we need.”
As Pakistan embraces digital transformation, the licensing of Higgs Computing may pave the way for a new wave of tech-driven development, boosting both local capacity and international credibility.
