ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday firmly rejected recent remarks by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, terming them "provocative and false," and accused New Delhi of spreading misinformation at a time when regional peace efforts are underway.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO), a spokesperson said that Modi’s comments are “completely baseless” and come as several friendly nations helped broker a ceasefire following the recent escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
“At a time when peace efforts are being made in the region, this statement by Narendra Modi is based on misinformation,” the FO spokesperson said. “Pakistan remains committed to enhancing peace and stability in the region.”
The FO accused India of attempting to deflect attention from its own internal security failures. “By blaming Pakistan, India is avoiding accountability for its own shortcomings,” the statement added.
The remarks from India’s prime minister follow the recent five-day military escalation that saw deadly cross-border attacks. Pakistan has labeled India’s actions during that conflict as "cold-blooded aggression," particularly for targeting civilians, including women and children.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan rejects all such assertions made by India and reaffirmed that the country has always resolutely defended its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“India is setting a dangerous precedent through its aggressive behavior, dragging the entire region to the brink of disaster,” the FO warned. “Such actions reflect the mindset of a revisionist state that seeks to undermine strategic stability in South Asia, regardless of the consequences.”
The FO also expressed deep concern over India’s attempt to normalize its militaristic conduct in the region, branding it as the “new normal.”
“Pakistan totally rejects this assertion. The 'normal' remains that no one will be allowed to challenge the principles and purposes of the UN Charter,” the statement said. “Pakistan has already demonstrated its resolve by safeguarding its sovereignty and the security of its people.”
The Foreign Office called on the international community to closely monitor India's conduct in the days ahead, particularly following the recently agreed ceasefire. It stressed that continued Indian hostility poses a threat to regional peace and violates international norms.
Pakistan’s firm response follows a growing chorus of concern from global observers who have warned that any further escalation between India and Pakistan could have catastrophic consequences for the region.
