ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has clarified that no official date has been finalised for the second round of ceasefire talks between Iran and the United States, amid growing global attention on regional peace efforts. Speaking during a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that discussions remain ongoing in a highly confidential and trust-based environment, with no confirmed schedule announced so far.
He emphasized that the sensitive nature of the negotiations requires discretion, urging restraint in speculation. The spokesperson also appreciated the role of Pakistani media, noting that it has shown responsibility while reporting on the evolving situation surrounding US-Iran relations and ceasefire negotiations.
Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, the Foreign Office said recent engagements, including the visit of Iran’s Chief of Defence Forces and high-level meetings led by Shehbaz Sharif, are part of a broader initiative to promote peace and stability in the region. However, the office refrained from commenting on specific positions taken by parties involved in the Tehran talks.
Pakistan reiterated that its role as a mediator reflects the trust placed in it by both Iran and the United States. Officials urged the media and analysts to avoid unnecessary speculation that could undermine delicate diplomatic efforts.
The spokesperson also reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong and historic relations with the United Arab Emirates, underscoring continued cooperation on regional matters.
Addressing another key issue, the Foreign Office categorically rejected India’s delimitation process in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling it illegal and politically motivated. It stated that such measures aim to alter the demographic and political structure of the disputed territory and further marginalize the Kashmiri population.
Pakistan maintained that India has no legal authority to redefine the status of the region, stressing that its final disposition must be determined in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
