ISLAMABAD: The Economic Survey of Pakistan for the fiscal year 2024–25 will be released on Monday (June 9), providing an overview of the government's evaluation of the national economy ahead of the annual budget.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, will present the document, as announced by the Ministry of Finance. The survey is a critical pre-budget report that reviews the country's socio-economic progress over the past fiscal year and sets the foundation for upcoming financial planning.
As per the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) and the National Economic Council (NEC), Pakistan’s GDP growth for 2024–25 stands at 2.7 percent, while the target for the next fiscal year has been set at 4.2 percent. The NEC also reported a notable 30.9 percent surge in remittances between July 2024 and April 2025, and for the first time, the current account remained in surplus during this period.
Fiscal performance showed signs of improvement, with the fiscal deficit reduced to 2.6 percent of GDP and the primary balance recording a surplus of 3 percent. Due to stable fundamentals and a proactive monetary stance, the policy interest rate was cut to 11 percent. Additionally, private sector credit grew, with Rs. 681 billion disbursed from July 2024 to May 2025.
The government attributed recent economic stability to collaborative efforts across federal and provincial levels. The agriculture sector played a pivotal role in boosting reserves and overall growth. Development spending for 2024–25 totals Rs. 3,483 billion, including Rs. 1,100 billion for federal projects and Rs. 2,383 billion for provinces.
