ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has successfully carried out a flight test of the indigenously developed Taimoor Weapon System, marking a significant advance in the country’s aerospace and defence capabilities, the military said on Saturday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the Taimoor air-launched cruise missile can accurately strike both land and sea targets at a range of up to 600 kilometres and is fitted with a conventional warhead. The missile features an advanced navigation and guidance system and is designed to fly at extremely low altitudes, allowing it to evade enemy radar, air defence and missile interception systems.

According to the military, the precision-strike capability of the missile substantially boosts the Pakistan Air Force’s conventional deterrence and operational flexibility. Senior officers from the armed forces, along with scientists and engineers involved in the project, observed the test launch.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu congratulated the teams behind the development, calling the achievement a testament to their professionalism, dedication and technical expertise. He said the success underscored Pakistan’s commitment to technological self-reliance and maintaining a credible deterrent amid evolving regional security challenges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also welcomed the successful test, praising the armed forces’ leadership and the scientists for strengthening national defence and advancing indigenous military technology.
