ISLAMABAD: Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), reaffirmed Pakistan's dedication to peace, emphasizing that the nation does not believe in violence and responds to aggression with restraint and responsibility.

Speaking to RT Arabic, Gen Chaudhry addressed the recent escalation with India, which began on May 6–7 when Indian airstrikes targeted areas in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), killing over 30 civilians. In retaliation, Pakistan downed five Indian fighter jets and intercepted several drones.

Following further Indian attacks on Pakistani military sites on May 9, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyan Marsoos,” targeting Indian military infrastructure while deliberately avoiding civilian casualties.

Gen Chaudhry disclosed that the ceasefire was initiated by an Indian defence official and brokered through U.S. mediation. He praised Pakistan’s diplomatic approach, describing it as measured and effective.

He also criticized India for blaming Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) without evidence and for refusing Islamabad’s offer of an impartial investigation. Instead, he said, India chose to escalate tensions through missile attacks on civilian areas.

Furthermore, the ISPR chief accused India of backing terrorist activities in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan, through proxy groups.

Reiterating the military’s commitment, Gen Chaudhry stated that Pakistan's armed forces will continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and respond firmly to any external threats.
