ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif has approved public attendance for all playoff matches of the Pakistan Super League, bringing relief and excitement to cricket fans across the country.
The announcement was confirmed by Mohsin Naqvi, who shared that the prime minister has now extended permission beyond the final to include all three crucial playoff fixtures of PSL season 11. The decision marks a significant shift from earlier restrictions imposed due to economic challenges.
“I’m pleased to share that we have secured his approval for public attendance in all three PSL playoff matches as well,” Naqvi stated in a post on X. The move is being widely welcomed by fans who were initially disappointed when the tournament was planned without spectators.
However, the approval comes with an important condition. In line with the government’s austerity policies amid the ongoing fuel crisis, the prime minister has urged fans to adopt energy-saving measures while attending matches. Spectators have been strongly encouraged to use public transport or minimize fuel consumption.
This directive reflects the government’s broader strategy to promote energy conservation as Pakistan navigates economic pressure linked to rising fuel costs and regional tensions. Authorities believe that public cooperation in reducing fuel usage can help ease the burden on national resources.
Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board had decided to hold PSL matches behind closed doors due to austerity measures introduced in response to the Middle East conflict and its impact on global oil prices. However, the situation eased slightly last week when permission was granted for crowd attendance at the final match.
The latest decision to allow fans in playoff matches is expected to boost the atmosphere and engagement around the tournament. Prime Minister Shehbaz also extended his best wishes to the four teams competing, expressing hope for a competitive and entertaining conclusion to the league.
Cricket enthusiasts are now eagerly preparing to return to stadiums while being mindful of the government’s call for responsible energy use.
