QUETTA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan was playing the role of a “net regional stabiliser” by contributing to peace and stability in the region and beyond. He made the remarks while addressing faculty members and student officers at the Command and Staff College in Quetta.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the premier highlighted the importance of military diplomacy and cooperation while praising Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace. PM Shehbaz also paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for what he described as a historic victory under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
During his speech, the prime minister referred to Marka-i-Haq and criticised India for rejecting Pakistan’s offer of dialogue. He stated that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be considered weakness, adding that the country responded responsibly and with restraint during tensions with India.
PM Shehbaz said the international community acknowledged Pakistan’s mature and prudent approach. He added that Pakistan’s diplomatic narrative had been fully vindicated while the opposing narrative had been rejected globally.
The premier also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression. Speaking about security challenges, he said Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq was continuing with full resolve against terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory.
He urged the Afghan government to take effective action against groups including Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), accusing them of using Afghan soil for attacks inside Pakistan.
Later, PM Shehbaz chaired a meeting of the Apex Committee of the National Action Plan in Quetta, where he directed the deployment of Frontier Corps personnel in Balochistan’s Rakhshan Division to establish a security corridor for mineral projects.
The prime minister stressed that Balochistan’s natural resources could boost Pakistan’s economy and said a secure environment was necessary for local and foreign investment. He also highlighted youth development initiatives, including scholarships, technical training, digital skills programmes, and employment opportunities aimed at empowering young people in Balochistan.
