ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed deep concern after three Pakistani nationals were injured when debris from an intercepted projectile fell near Khor Fakkan Port in the United Arab Emirates.
The prime minister said the government was in close contact with UAE authorities to ensure that all possible support and medical assistance is provided to the injured Pakistanis. He also prayed for their speedy recovery and called for restraint amid rising tensions in the region.
“Deeply concerned at the incident at Khor Fakkan port in the UAE, where an intercepted projectile caused injuries to civilians, including Pakistani nationals,” Shehbaz Sharif wrote on X. He added that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of the UAE and supports efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further violence.
According to UAE authorities, four people were injured in the incident on April 5 after the country’s air defence systems intercepted several missiles and drones launched from Iran. Among the injured was one Nepalese national who suffered serious injuries, while the three Pakistani citizens received minor to moderate injuries.
The attack took place at Khor Fakkan Port in Sharjah, one of the UAE’s most important ports. Officials said emergency teams quickly responded to the scene after debris from the intercepted projectile caused a fire at the site. The fire was later brought under control and cooling operations continued through the night.
UAE authorities said their forces intercepted nine ballistic missiles, one cruise missile and around 50 drones during the latest attack. The incident is part of the wider Iran-US conflict and the ongoing Iran-Israel war, which has increasingly affected Gulf countries in recent weeks.
Since the start of the conflict, at least four Pakistani nationals have died in the UAE due to falling debris from intercepted missiles and drones. Three of them died in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai. Overall, the conflict has killed two military personnel and 10 civilians of different nationalities in the UAE, while around 217 people have been injured.
The Pakistani government said it is continuing to monitor the situation closely and remains in contact with its embassy and UAE officials to protect Pakistani citizens living in the country.
