ISLAMABAD, May 6: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by senior members of his cabinet and the armed forces, visited the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) on Tuesday amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over India’s assertive posture along the eastern border.

During the visit, the premier, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, was given a comprehensive briefing on the current security landscape. The presentation focused heavily on conventional military threats, hybrid warfare strategies, and the role of hostile proxies.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the top civil-military leadership was updated on the evolving threat environment and regional developments. Emphasis was placed on national preparedness, inter-agency coordination, and strategic response capabilities to ensure swift and decisive action against any aggression or violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Prime Minister Shehbaz commended the ISI for its strategic insights and operational professionalism, acknowledging its crucial contribution to national security and decision-making processes in a rapidly changing regional context. “The Pakistan Army is one of the most professional and disciplined forces in the world. The entire nation stands firmly behind its armed forces,” the prime minister said during the visit.

The leadership reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defend the nation from all forms of threats. The armed forces, it was emphasized, are fully equipped and supported by all branches of state power to uphold the country’s security and integrity.

This high-level engagement comes at a time of renewed tensions with India following the April 22 attack in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. New Delhi has accused Islamabad of orchestrating the attack—a charge Pakistan has categorically rejected, calling it unfounded and politically motivated.

Islamabad has countered by claiming it possesses credible intelligence suggesting that India is planning a military strike, a development that has raised alarm over the possibility of open conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Diplomatic relations have soured, with both sides engaging in retaliatory rhetoric and escalating threats.

In this context, Tuesday’s visit to the ISI headquarters served as both a strategic security review and a message of unity and resolve from Pakistan’s leadership in the face of rising regional volatility.
