ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to undertake a three-day official visit to China from May 23 to May 26, marking another important step in strengthening Pakistan China relations and expanding economic cooperation under regional and global frameworks. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during the launch ceremony of the IBI Pakistan Digital Economy Centre in Islamabad.
During the visit, PM Shehbaz Sharif is expected to participate in a high-level Business-to-Business (B2B) forum on May 24, where investors and business leaders from both countries will explore opportunities in trade, investment, technology, and industrial collaboration. The visit highlights Pakistan China economic cooperation, particularly in the context of digital transformation and innovation-driven growth.
Officials say the trip will further enhance bilateral ties in key sectors including trade, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, climate resilience, disaster management, healthcare, and smart cities. The leadership of both countries is also focusing on expanding the scope of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has already played a significant role in improving Pakistan’s energy supply and connectivity infrastructure.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized that the Pakistan China partnership is entering a “new phase in the digital age,” describing the relationship as one built on trust and long-term strategic cooperation. He also highlighted the concept of a “Pak-China digital corridor,” which aims to strengthen digital connectivity, technological innovation, and collaboration in emerging industries.
The visit comes shortly after President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent trip to China, where multiple memoranda of understanding were signed to deepen cooperation across various economic sectors. Additionally, Pakistan has been active in facilitating diplomatic engagement between global powers, while maintaining close coordination with China on regional developments.
The two countries are also preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations on May 21, further reinforcing their longstanding friendship. PM Shehbaz Sharif’s visit is expected to build momentum for future economic partnerships and reinforce Pakistan China strategic relations in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
