LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the Pak Business Express at Lahore Railway Station, hailing it as a key milestone in Pakistan Railways' modernization.
The upgraded train service, which will run between Lahore and Karachi, features digitised ticketing, modern lounges, reception desks, and European-style amenities. The journey will take approximately 18.5 hours, catering to both elite and general passengers.
In his address, PM Shehbaz lauded Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi for reviving the sector, calling his efforts “turning the impossible into possible.” He also credited former minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for reforms under the previous government.
Shehbaz stated that Pakistan is entering a new development era with China through CPEC Phase II and is actively working to reset ties with the U.S., calling it a "new chapter" in bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister highlighted recent economic improvements, noting a 5% drop in inflation and better macroeconomic indicators. “The country is on the right path. Teamwork is delivering results,” he asserted.
On security, Shehbaz called Pakistan’s nuclear capability a “guarantor of peace,” and praised the armed forces for their “heroic role” during the May 9 incident, which he described as a diplomatic win against India.
Referencing Donald Trump’s past claims of brokering peace between Pakistan and India, Shehbaz remarked, “Even today, those statements upset Modi.”
He concluded by emphasizing his government’s long-term vision for rail modernization. “This is just the beginning. Hard work and honesty will shape Pakistan’s future,” the premier said.
