ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday congratulated Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian nation on the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
In his message, the president highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran, noting that the two countries share bonds based on common history, culture, language, and geography. He expressed hope that the enduring “spirit of brotherhood” would continue to promote peace, prosperity, and stability in both nations and across the wider region.
President Zardari also conveyed his best wishes for the supreme leader’s health and prayed for continued progress and well-being for the Iranian people.
The anniversary marks the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the fall of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the establishment of the Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The occasion is observed annually on February 11, concluding the ten-day commemorations that begin on February 1, marking Khomeini’s return to Iran and the eventual collapse of the monarchy.
This year’s anniversary comes amid heightened regional tensions and diplomatic developments involving Iran and the United States. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, addressing a gathering in Tehran, reiterated that Iran would not bow to external pressure while continuing dialogue with neighboring countries to ensure regional stability. He maintained that Iran’s nuclear programme remains peaceful and open to verification.
The day was marked by rallies across Iran, with participants waving national flags and reaffirming support for the Islamic Republic.
